چکیده

The ferruginous limpet is one of the most threatened invertebrate species in Mediterranean Sea. Its controlled reproduction has been considered potentially effective strategies for production juveniles population restocking or recolonization areas where was brought to extinction by human pressure but now under protection (e.g., MPAs). This approach pursued at least two decades with partial results: most, some have obtained and reached adult stage, yet not starting from spawning induction through sacrifice female specimens (lethal approach), additionally resulting low genetic diversity produced. Herein, we describe, first time, positive results P. ferruginea. fertilizations made after these experiences allow describing larval development its early stages metamorphosis. fertilization rate events much higher (>97%) than previous studies that were based on extraction oocytes dissection. non-anomalous larvae 15 hours negligible variable, depending perhaps quality sperm available each fertilization. timing variability, particularly regarding metamorphosis, are described. Settlement ability 3–4 days fertilization, water temperature, while a large variability observed occurring between 7 32 (probably up 40 days), although inducing factors still unknown.

Significant genetic differentiation among populations of Anomalocardia brasiliana (Gmelin, 1791): A bivalve with planktonic larval dispersion

Four Brazilian populations of Anomalocardia brasiliana were tested for mutual genetic homogeneity, using data from 123 sequences of the mtDNA cytochrome oxidase c subunit I gene. A total of 36 haplotypes were identified, those shared being H3 (Canela Island, Prainha and Acupe) and both H5 and H9 (Prainha and Acupe). Haplotype diversity values were high, except for the Camurupim population, wher...

Reproduction of Pisidium casertanum (Poli, 1791) in Arctic lake

Freshwater invertebrates are able to develop specific ecological adaptations that enable them to successfully inhabit an extreme environment. We investigated the brooding bivalve of Pisidium casertanum in Talatinskoe Lake, Vaigach Island, Arctic Russia. Here, quantitative surveys were conducted, with the collection and dissections of 765 molluscs, on the basis of which analyses on the brood sac...

Population structure of the bivalve Anomalocardia brasiliana, (Gmelin, 1791) in the semi-arid estuarine region of northeastern Brazil.

For several decades, the bivalve mollusk Anomalocardia brasiliana has been extracted in estuarine areas in the semi-arid region of northeastern Brazil. However, information on both dynamics and abundance of their populations are missing. In this context, the present study, therefore, investigated several aspects of the population structure of A. brasiliana on beaches near the estuary of the Apo...

Phylogeography and Genetic Differentiation among Populations of the Moon Turban Snail Lunella granulata Gmelin, 1791 (Gastropoda: Turbinidae)

We examined the genetic variation and phylogeographic relationships among 10 populations of Lunella granulata from mainland China, Penghu Archipelago, Taiwan Island, and Japan using mitochondrial COI and 16S markers. A total of 45 haplotypes were obtained in 112 specimens, and relatively high levels of haplotype diversity (h = 0.903) and low levels of nucleotide diversity (π = 0.0046) were dete...

Nucleotide sequence of the 18S ribosomal RNA gene from the Atlantic sea scallop Placopecten magellanicus (Gmelin, 1791).

The Atlantic sea scallop, Placopecten magellanicus, is a bivalve mollusc that occurs along the Atlantic seaboard of North America. It is commercially exploited and in many areas has sustained an important fishery for more than 60 years (1). Recently it has been targeted as a potential species for aquaculture (2). The 18S rRNA sequence presented below represents the first complete molluscan sequ...
